In the book of “Mitologi dan Toleransi Orang Jawa” by Ben Anderson, Javanese people were mentioned to have the value of “adhiluhung” in interpreting their life. That value is reflected in the world of shadow puppet or “wayang” as the guidelines of life for Javanese people. One of the figures in shadow puppets is Petruk. This characteristic is so famous with his advice and also wisdom in life. He is the member of Punakawan which is so famous in the land of Java.

Police in Tangerang, a city in the province of Banten, in Indonesia recently arrested a man suspected of raping his own teenage daughter repeatedly over the past year. According to the police, the 39-year-old suspect from Onyam village in Tangerang regency, divorced his wife two years ago. Meanwhile, their daughter, who is now 16, had been living with him ever since.
Ki Ageng Pandanaran or known as Pangeran Mangkubumi was given the title as Sunan Bayat or Sunan Tembayat. He was the second head of government in Semarang, central Java, Indonesia. Beside being the head of government or leader in Semarang, he was known as the important figure that spread Islam in Semarang. In 16th century, Pangeran Mangkubumi led Semarang and he was the son of the first leader in Semarang named Harya Madya Pandan.
Gareng is one of the famous traditional Javanese puppet characters which appears often in show shadow puppets. Gareng’s complete name is “Nala Gareng” but he is known to be Gareng only. Gareng is basically one of the members of Javanese puppet with the limp leg. Beside it, he also has another physical disability such as the the broken arm. Based on philosophy, those have different meaning such as don’t take others’ right.
